The septillionth “yesterday” cover.

Found in the subway station below the Natural History Museum on a hot summer day in NYC.

ableton expressionism #1

my neighbor practices old-timey piano sometimes. the clip i made this from was recorded through the floorboards, which accounts for the graininess.

this one is about the birds in the cemetery next to my house and the time they got into my laptop and sang scary songs to me.

been running lately

i have been running lately. i go to a “McFit” (a german gym chain) which is across the street from my house. it is an absolutely completely absurdly ridiculous place, and even the flash-iness of their website supports this claim. here, look: http://www.mcfit.com/

Auditory illusions

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Auditory_illusion

here is an idea i don't have time for:

take this youtube video…(or something similar) and double it…make it x2 and split-screen.

then make ascending and descending xylophone scales.

then set one of the sides of the screen to run backwards (and sync up the tapes so that the balls begin moving at the same time). have the screens switch sides back and forth once a second…

then set the audio to pan accordingly (i.e. alternating with the video) but have the tracks set to the wrong visual i.e. the ascending scale plays on the right ear while the right screen is the descending video. set to loop.

it would be something like a musician’s Mcgurk effect + Deutsch’s scale illusion.

speaking of looking

http://ffffound.com is a beautiful…

web service that not only allows the users to post and share their favorite images found on the web, but also dynamically recommends each user's tastes and interests for an inspirational image-bookmarking experience!!

it is an invitation based for contributions…but they share the love.

http://weheartit.com/ is the public knock off.

oh also.

i was using Picasa, a photo program made by a company that Google bought…anyway…it recently started featuring face recognition, which is doubly disturbing because it syncs with your Google account…so when I start typing in “Deborah” to tag a photo of my mother it instantly brings up her email as in Gmail…and thus invokes the ol’ Google 2-step within me…i.e.…”oh, that’s handy” followed quickly by “oh, that’s creepy.”

anyway…as you can see the facial recognition is still a little glitchy (see upper right)…

obama = christine.

…i just don’t see it.

transmediale/CTM – delicious pear/stir-fry

at the opening, at the “house of culture” by the bundestag, ryoji ikeda’s “data tron,” an interactive, “human networked” version of “daisy,” and some stupid lamps and desks powered by eating household pests….

sadly “matrix [5ch version,” [which I saw/heard in Tokyo], was not in attendance. ‘twas groovy, looked like this:
